Meme coin projects & disputes
Legal guidance for meme coin founders, project teams and purchasers, from launch planning and project agreements to disputes involving funds, platforms and alleged misconduct.
For founders & project teams
Address legal questions surrounding your project's structure, token distribution, promotional arrangements and ongoing operations.
- Project and entity formation
- Token launch and distribution review
- Founder, contributor and service agreements
- Terms of service and project documentation
For purchasers & token holders
Understand your potential options when a project fails, access to funds is restricted, or you suspect fraud or misconduct.
- Review of project representations and transaction records
- Disputes involving project teams or platforms
- Asset tracing and recovery assessment
- Evaluation of potential claims
These are areas the firm advises on. They are not a prediction of any result. Whether a claim exists, and whether anything can be recovered, depends on the facts of the particular matter.
Before we speak
Preparing for a consultation
Bring whatever you have. A consultation is still useful with an incomplete record, and gathering the rest is often part of the work.
For project teams
- What the token is and how it is being distributed
- Who is involved, and on what terms
- Any entity already formed, and where
- Marketing material and public statements made so far
For purchasers
- A short written summary of what happened and when
- Wallet addresses and the contract address
- Transaction records or an exchange export
- Screenshots or archived copies of the project's public statements

Questions
Frequently asked questions
General information, not legal advice. Where an answer cites a published source, that source and its review date are shown with it.
Are meme coins securities?
There is no single answer that covers every token. A joint SEC and CFTC interpretation issued on March 17, 2026 set out a token taxonomy that includes digital commodities, digital collectibles, digital tools, stablecoins and digital securities. Where a particular token falls in that taxonomy depends on how it was offered, what was promised and how it functions.
Two points hold regardless of the label: a category does not protect a token used to evade the securities laws, and fraud is actionable whatever the classification.
Source: SEC press release 2026-30, March 17, 2026. Last reviewed September 20, 2026.A project I bought into collapsed. What is looked at first?
An initial review examines the project's public statements, the transaction history, who controlled the wallets and the contract, and the correspondence you hold. That work comes before any view on whether a claim exists.
How the courts treat these claims is still being worked out, and the answer differs by the theory pleaded and by the facts of the particular project. No outcome is typical, and none is promised.
Does the firm act for both project teams and purchasers?
Yes, in separate matters. Before any engagement the firm runs a conflicts check, and it will not act for both sides of the same dispute.
What should I have ready before a consultation?
A short written summary of what happened and when. Wallet addresses and the contract address. Transaction records or an exchange export. Screenshots or archived copies of what the project said publicly. Any correspondence with the team, a platform or an exchange.
